S.AGATA RIMOSSA
Reactivation project

2015-2023

Collaboration with Associazione Maite for the rehabilitation of the former prison of Sant’Agata, in the uptown of Bergamo.

In July 2015, as member of Maite I collaborated in re-opening the former prison of Sant’Agata to the public. After achieving a deal with the Municipality, we got the permission to reuse the spaces of the old building (originally a monastery): we coordinated cleaning, technical setting and minimal furbishing, and we realized first a week-end and later a full week of events. The prison was able to host tours of the building, concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions.

Later on, the dialogue with institutions continued and led to a collaboation agreement, which allowed to legally run the building as an urban common for 8 years: more citizens were involved in the process of reactivation and in the form of a shared-managed cultural space.

On the Facebook page “EXSA Ex Carcere Sant’Agata di Bergamo” it’s still possible to review the events that took place in the building.
