O : COLLECTIVE HAPPENING
Reactivation-performative project

2014

Collaboration with performer nunu kong and Lorenzo Malloni for the event O:Collective.

Outside of Tongji University Campus, in Shanghai, stands a construction site used by engineers for building testing. Inside the fenced site, in 2014, me, nunu kong (performing artist based in Shanghai) and Lorenzo Malloni (architect and video maker based in Marche) have organized and managed a one-day event calling for performers to share a personal piece. Artists from different fields (dance, music, theatre, installation) have joined the proposal, making the O:Collective possible.

The space used for the intervention was an impressive model of a building (in scale 1:3) used for earthquake tests, a metal structure resembling a colosseum.
My  contribution to the event was the piece “The Zoo”: a 10 minutes situation where the audience was invited to be at the center of the structure -on stage- and interact with the performers, who were moving around the stage, without any specific rule. Participants were observed by the performers, who could imitate them: after a little while, the audience started playing a game of control on the performers through the movement, stressing imitation towards a relation of possession. At some points, participants were as well letting themselves being controlled, in a relation of silent switching roles.
